Doris Secures Spot in Ireland Selection But Joe McCarthy Left Out
Newly reappointed manager Andy Farrell has selected captain Doris in his Ireland team for the autumn internationals, but lock McCarthy is absent.
The captain, who has not played since having shoulder surgery in early May, has come back to provincial training, though his fitness is uncertain whether he will be ready to face the All Blacks in the US on 1 November.
Lock McCarthy, on the other hand, did not make the cut after failing to recover from the foot issue he sustained during the first British and Irish Lions match against Australia in the summer.
Northern province player Izuchukwu and southern province wing Calvin Nash are also absent because of fitness concerns, while number 15 Hugo Keenan was previously excluded after undergoing a hip operation after the Lions tour.
Leinster forward Paddy McCarthy - Joe's younger brother - is the sole new member in the 34-man group, however Irish rugby authorities states new Munster pair Edogbo and Gleeson and once-capped Connacht wing Shayne Bolton will travel to the US as "backup".
After playing the New Zealand at the Chicago stadium in a repeat of their 2016 meeting, Ireland host the Brave Blossoms, Australia and world title holders the Springboks in the Irish capital.
"There's an exciting look to the squad and it's a chance for the veteran members and for the newcomers on the recent tour to the Lelos and the Lobos," said Farrell, back to national team duties after taking a sabbatical to lead the British and Irish Lions to the southern hemisphere.
In a largely experienced selection, Leinster's Sam Prendergast and the southern club's Crowley will again compete for the starting number 10 position. The fly-half role is remains available, as the two players set to play against each other for the first time in the upcoming United Rugby Championship game at Croke Park.
Ciaran Frawley is the third fly-half chosen with Farrell opting against selecting Leinster's Harry Byrne.
At number 9, Farrell has selected Lions tourist Gibson-Park and Casey, who led Ireland to the summer Test wins over the Lelos and Portugal. There is also a return for Connacht's Caolin Blade, who is preferred to teammate Ben Murphy.
Henshaw, Bundee Aki, Ringrose and Stuart McCloskey represent an veteran cohort of midfield choices. Jamie Osborne is another option in the centres, though the youngster is also a leading candidate to deputise for Keenan at full-back.
Wingers Lowe, Hansen, Tommy O'Brien and Jacob Stockdale are named. The winger shone on his first Ireland outings over the summer with a brace each in the wins over Georgia and the Lobos.
McCarthy is the sole fresh name in the Irish forwards. The loose-head prop has been in a couple of his province's URC league matches so far and played in Ireland A's defeat by the English in Bristol earlier this year.
McCarthy was selected in interim boss Paul O'Connell's summer selection, but did not receive a cap.
Munster second row Ahern, who received his debut appearances in those Tests, is retained, while veteran Ulster second row Henderson is back after missing the summer matches.
Jack Conan, who started each of the Lions Tests over the summer, is poised to cover for the captain should the captain fails to recover full fitness soon enough to face the All Blacks.
The national team will meet in the capital on the start of the week before flying to Chicago on Tuesday.
