Woman Stabbed in Birmingham Bus Stop Assault Dies

The female victim who was stabbed in the neck during a random assault at a bus stop in Birmingham has died, police have confirmed.

The deceased woman, aged 34 years, was targeted in Smallbrook Queensway, just outside the Bullring shopping centre, shortly before 21:00 GMT on Friday, West Midlands Police said.

Djeison Rafael, twenty-one, was presented at Birmingham Magistrates Court on Monday, facing charges for the attack.

He was previously accused of attempted murder however after the victim's passing charges were upgraded to murder.

Law Enforcement Actions

Authorities stated police personnel will remain in the downtown area through Monday to offer reassurance, while detectives assisted the victim's relatives.

Detectives are appealing any eyewitnesses who might have observed Mr Rafael, who is described as a Black British national, reportedly dressed in grey athletic wear, dark headwear, trainers and rucksack.

The stabbing happened outside Bullring retail complex, across from primary access point to Birmingham New Street station.

Police said they classified it as a random violent act with investigators stating they were working to understand why it happened.

Witness Accounts

Shalini Doal, employed in the vicinity, recounted the emergency response when she finished her work period at about 22:00 on Friday.

She described the scene as "quite chaotic", adding that some of her colleagues heard a commotion around 9 PM.

"A lot of co-workers take public transport, ride the tramline... our safety is at risk fundamentally, here in the city centre."

Ashley Birks, 25, from Stoke-on-Trent, said he came the city quite frequently visiting his partner who lives in the city, and was concerned about what had happened.

"It causes concern about my partner," he stated.

"She doesn't drive employed at all of the big music venues... and to think something completely unprovoked occurred, understandably, it's terrible."
